In Istanbul, we'll lose our way in the Grand Bazaar and munch our way through the famously fragrant Spice Market. We'll follow the fall of the ancient capital of Byzantium and the rise of Islam at the city's ancient wall, and wander among the treasures of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and Topkapı Palace. To escape the city bustle, we'll cruise the churning waters of the Bosphorus, make friends over backgammon, and try a traditional Turkish bath. © 2008 Rick Steves' Europe
"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is a 1953 swing-style song, with lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy and music by Nat Simon. The lyrics comically refer to the official 1930 renaming of the city of Constantinople to Istanbul. It also references other renamed cities, specifically the renaming of New York City from New Amsterdam. "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" was originally recorded by the Canadian group The Four Lads on August 12, 1953. This recording was released by Columbia Records as catalog number 40082. It first reached the Billboard magazine charts on October 24, 1953, and it peaked at #10. It was the group's first gold record.
Istanbul is a city i've wanted to visit a long time. Bordering both Europe and the Middle East, it is a fascinating melting pot of tradition and culture. I spent 24 hours wandering the city with a camera strapped to my head. I met people, ate wonderful food and climbed old ruins. This is what I saw. The series wouldn't have been possible with out The Marriott as our partner. This is the last episode in a series of three! When a city has as many stunning sights as Istanbul, it’s best to get a good birds-eye view of the whole city before zooming in for a closer look! Matador Network’s “Istanbul from the air” does just that, showing you the city’s historic peninsula and downtown before crossing the bridge between two continents to give stunning views over Europe and Asia! Take a look yourself, and enjoy! Music: "Istanbul” by Mercan Dede, from the album “800" The story of “Istanbul from the Air”, from the words of Creative Director of Matador Network, Scott Sporleder: "Napoleon Bonaparte once said, “If the Earth were a single state, Istanbul would be its capital.” And I wholeheartedly agree. There are few cities on this globe that possess truly remarkable skylines, and Istanbul is one of them. It’s been a cro...

Travel video about destination Istabul in Turkey. Istanbul is a grand Turkish metropolis that extends across two continents and is influenced by various cultural and historic epochs. In the bright and ornate interior of the Hagia Sophia the splendid yet contrasting influence of both Christian Byzantine and Ottoman architecture has been preserved to the present day. Beneath the second largest cupola in the world, each of these cultures and religions unite in perfect harmony. Not far from the Hagia Sophia is the Yerebatan Saray that provides a fascinating insight into Constantinople's former water supply. Three hundred and thirty six columns support the vaulted ceiling of the cistern that was built in around 532 A.D. The Topkapi Palace was built by Sultan Mehmet The Second. It is one of the ...

License Video: http://dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer=Pete+R&sort_by_date=true More often than not, people spend all their time in Turkey mostly in Istanbul. Some may diverted their time to cities along the Mediterranean sea or the cave city of Cappadocia. But Turkey has much more to offer than that especially in the east! After arriving in Istanbul, I was bombarded by the sight of throngs of tourists. The city itself is great and all but I just can't handle the crowds so my quest to get away from all the tourists began by starting off from Selcuk and traveled across the country through Pamukakle, Antalya, Fethiye, Faralya, Kabak, Goreme, Mt Nemrut, Van Trabzon and finally Kars where I crossed the border to Georgia (stay tuned for my next video about Georgia).
